The Clay Cauldron is a small, private pottery studio that will be offering classes for up to 4 students at a time. Open studio time, kiln firings, studio use and private instruction options available.

Glazer’s Club

$150 per month

Glazer’s club is for experienced potters that would like to work on their own projects with limited guidance. Includes one bag of clay for the first session you enroll in and open studio time. Club dues are collected every 4 weeks.

Beads and Pendants I

$35 per class

In this workshop students will learn techniques for creating ceramic beads and pendants. The items created will be colored with slip. The instructor will finish with a clear glaze after the bisque firing. If you would like to take home your beads after this workshop, the instructor will contact you to arrange a time. If you would like to keep them at the studio to do part 2 of the workshop (assembling your jewelry) that is okay too!

Beads and Pendants II - putting it together

Using the finished beads and pendants created in the first class, Students will create one completed unique necklace. All supplies and materials will be provided. For an additional fee of $20 you may choose to make a second necklace using your remaining pieces.

Pinch Pot Sculpting

$150 per 5 week session

Learn how to make sculptures with a pinch pot base. Add details to your sculpture using more pinch pots, coils, slab bits or carving. Clay and tools provided by instructor. Open studio time is included in class fee.

Techniques in Glazing

$175 per 5 week session

Through discussion and practice students will learn techniques for glazing bisqueware. Slips, underglazes and high fire glazes will be used. During the first class students will create simple slab pieces for use during the following classes. Slip will be applied to some of the raw clay designs.

Children’s Class (5-12 year olds)

$140 per 4 week session

Children will learn about clay and the stages it goes through while producing projects. All projects will be hand built using slabs, slumps, coils and the extruder. Slip will be used for coloring process during last class. The instructor will apply a low fire clear glaze. Finished projects will be bisqueware (not dishwasher/microwave safe). Projects to be picked up as scheduled, any projects not collected within 2 weeks will be donated.

Teen Class (12- 17 year olds)

$175 per 5 week session

Students will learn handbuilding techniques and be introduced to using the wheel. Slips and simple glazes will be used for coloring. Fee includes opportunity of 2 open studio blocks (up to 2 hours each)for extra practice of skills learned, to be arranged with the instructor. Projects will be stoneware (microwave/dishwasher safe). Projects to be picked up as scheduled, any projects not collected within 2 weeks will be donated.

Parent/Child Class (One Adult with 5- 17 year olds)

$150 per 4 week session

In the spirit of teamwork, all projects will be made together. Communication is key to the production of each project. From slab rolling to pinch pots to making coils, both parties will contribute to the piece of pottery. Slip will be used to add color and delight to the projects. Projects will be bisqueware (not microwave/dishwasher safe). Projects to be picked up as scheduled, any projects not collected within 2 weeks will be donated.

Couples Class (Two Adults 21+, wine will be served)

$200 per couple for a 4 week session

You and your partner will work together to create each project. Teamwork and communication are necessary for production. All projects will be handbuilt through cooperation and discussion. Slips and glazes will be used to add color and finish the projects. Finished projects will be stoneware (microwave/dishwasher safe). Projects to be picked up as scheduled, any projects not collected within 2 weeks will be donated.

Adult Pottery I ( Adults 18+)

$225 per 5 week session

This level is a basic introductory class for beginners and those who would like a refresher on building with clay. Students will make handbuilt projects using various techniques. Throwing on the wheel will be introduced during week 3. Supervised open studio time is included and to be scheduled with the instructor for practice of skills. Simple glazing will be used, slip will be an option. Finished projects will be stoneware (microwave/dishwasher safe). Projects to be picked up as scheduled, any projects not collected within 2 weeks will be donated. Class level may be repeated as desired.

Handbuilding Techniques (Adults 18+)

$225 per 5 week session

Beyond pinchpots and coils, though these will be included. Class will explore using the slab roller and extruder to make functional and decorative pieces. One bag of clay and open studio time is included and to be scheduled with the instructor. Finished products will be stoneware. Projects to be picked up as scheduled. Any projects not picked up within two weeks will be donated. Class level may be repeated as desired.

Extruder Class

$250 per 5 week session

Extruded clay (extruder is like a cookie or play-dough press) will be used to make pots, bowls and decorations. Projects to be picked up as scheduled. Any projects not picked up within two weeks will be donated. Class level may be repeated as desired.

Pottery II ( Adults 18+)

$225 per 5 week session

This class will focus on developing and refining individual techniques for handbuilding and wheel throwing. Lessons are mostly initiated by the student and guided by the instructor. Glazing styles and skills will be explored to create unique works of art. Open studio time is included, sign up for time slots during class. Finished projects will be stoneware (microwave/dishwasher safe). Projects to be picked up as scheduled, any projects not collected within 2 weeks will be donated. Class level may be repeated as desired.

Wheel I ( Adults 18+)

$275 per 5 week session

Wheel I is a beginning and refresher class for throwing on a wheel. Students will learn centering and trimming techniques while creating bowls and pots. One bag of clay and open studio time is included for practice of skills learned during class, sign up for time slots with your instructor. Finished projects will be stoneware (microwave/dishwasher safe). Projects to be picked up as scheduled, any projects not collected within 2 weeks will be donated. Class level may be repeated as desired.

Kiln firing:

Bisque only: $20 up to 1/2 shelf

Glaze only: $25 up to 1/2 shelf

Bisque and Glaze (same item): $35 up to 1/2 shelf

Open Studio time:

$25 per hour
